There will be engaging historic activities and crafts on the North Lawn to see and do. The 1st NC Regiment of the Continental Army and the 35th Regiment of the United States Colored Troops will be there. Expect an appearance of Tryon Palace’s Fife and Drum Corps. On the great South Lawn, there will be all the fixings of an evening of fun for everyone! Your choice of lawn games – cornhole, giant Jenga, ladder ball and Connect 4 – and other activities to enjoy while listening to live music and dancing with hula hoops. You can visit with birds and snakes from the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter or indulge in a tale with StoryWalk.
It’s not a party without food! Dinner includes savory barbeque, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and ice cream! For all those young at heart there will be a s’mores station to indulge in. For adults who want to chill on the South Lawn with breathtaking views of the river, wine and beer is available for purchase.
The grand finale to the evening – just as the sun sets, a performance of fire dancers! Do not miss this amazing event!
Tickets include everything but the wine and beer. There will be tables for dining but bring your lawn chair and blanket for a fun and friendly picnic on the Palace grounds under the evening sky.

Boxyard RTP is proud to present a new installment in the SoapBox series, Magic! The show gets started at 7pm, but we encourage you to stop by early while our performer roams from table to table showing off their 1 on 1 magic tricks.
While this show is family friendly and kids of all ages are always welcome at Boxyard, the tricks and complexity will be geared more towards adults. We recommend this event for audiences 13+.

The ultimate Independence Day celebration takes place on Boone Lake Saturday, July 2nd!
We invite you to join this lake-front celebration for an evening filled with music, fireworks, and fun. Tickets are required for beach access and are not available to the general public.
Find us on Boone Lake and enjoy the live music and fireworks from your boat! There will be no access to the beach or dock, so make sure you bring your own food and refreshments aboard. A big crowd is expected — anchor down early! Tickets are not required to watch from the lake.

The legendary Winterville Watermelon Festival is a multi-day event featuring activities the whole family can enjoy. You can hear local and nationally known music acts throughout the event. One of the biggest events of the festival is the Watermelon Parade through town. The watermelon-eating contest is always a favorite. Festival-goers young and old can enjoy carnival rides and midway games all weekend. In addition, visitors can check out the flea market and commercial vendors set up through the festival grounds. Food vendors serve both watermelon treats and classic fair food such as funnel cakes, turkey legs, and corn dogs. The Winterville Watermelon Festival has so much to offer. You don’t want to miss it!
The City of Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department will present the “4th of July Stars in the Sky” on Monday, July 4, 2022 at Victory Landing Park (50 25th St.). The event begins at 7:00 p.m. with free children’s inflatables (moon bounces, obstacle courses), free face painting, the Tomcats Dixieland Band (performing near the Newport News Victory Arch) and strolling entertainment. Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including kettle corn, sno cones, shaved ice, smoothies, ice cream, funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, grilled cheese and ribs. Live music will be provided by the USAF Heritage of America Band Full Spectrum from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Free light-up give-a-way items will be given out during the event (while supplies last). A spectacular fireworks show by the internationally award winning fireworks company Pyrotecnico, will light up the sky over the James River at 9:00 p.m.
Admission and parking are free. Directions: Take I-64 to I-664S, take Exit 6 to 26th Street, turn left onto Huntington Avenue, and turn right onto 23rd Street. Free parking is available at the Newport News City Hall parking lot and designated non-restricted public parking spaces in the Downtown area.
