The Summer Games is the largest state-level event for Special Olympics North Carolina, featuring competition in athletics, bowling, gymnastics, powerlifting, softball, swimming and volleyball.

Raleigh has hosted the SONC Summer Games since 1995.

The 2019 Summer Games featured nearly 1,800 athletes and Unified partners competing in seven sports.  Unified partners are individuals without intellectual disabilities who train and compete alongside Special Olympics athletes.
