Historic Downtown is one of the gems of Summerville any day of the year, but it shines especially bright on the Third Thursday of every month. Downtown businesses – shops, restaurants, art galleries and more extend their hours until 8:30 p.m. or later…

With more than twenty dining and drinking establishments within walking distance of historic Hutchinson Square, you are likely to find the atmosphere you were searching for. Whether your preference is locally roasted coffee and a pastry, to micro brews and a burger, or imported wines and charcuterie, to soda fountain specialties and a hot dog, or prime rib or homemade pasta, you can find it here…. Many establishments run specials for Third Thursdays throughout the year and of course Sweet Tea is always on the menu.
Shoppers on Third Thursdays will find a wide variety of retail experiences and a range of treasures that is seemingly endless… including fine jewelry, home décor, kitchenware and gadgets, food and gift baskets to pampering opportunities of salons and spas and boutiques with great clothing and accessories plus dancewear for kids. Plenty of antiques and vintage items for every collector, to quilts, and crafting, to sewing and knitting needs. Art enthusiasts will find multiple art galleries featuring sculpture, painting and photography, as well as public art installations throughout downtown and in nearby Azalea Park.
Adding to the charm of our southern town, on most Third Thursdays, Hutchinson Square becomes an entertainment venue, with live local musicians and vendor booths. For this special monthly event, “Little Main” adjacent to Hutchinson Square becomes a small street festival and classic car show. The pedestrian mall on Short Central features additional shopping, art displays and entertainment.
This monthly celebration showcases a bustling small town, our lively community atmosphere, as well as our many locally-owned and family run businesses. It’s a perfect chance to get acquainted with the historic downtown area of Summerville.
