This year Pepperfest is coming home to downtown Pittsboro!
A celebration of sustainable agriculture, farmers, and the creativity of the Piedmont’s top chefs, brewers and artisans! This amazing culinary event is held in the late cool summer and hosts around 3,000 folks who enjoy live music and revelry, learning and discovery – including a kid’s craft and fun zone – while filling up on delicious pepper-themed dishes made with locally grown sweet, hot and smoky NC peppers.
In the nearly 31 years since it began, our flagship charity event has helped raise millions of dollars towards better understanding—and, eventually, maybe even curing—illnesses like depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, postpartum depression, schizophrenia, and anorexia. 100% of the money raised by participants directly funds local mental health research at the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Psychiatry. And, as critically, it helps call attention to the stigma and significance of these often invisible illnesses, which affect as many as 1 in 5 American adults.
Each year, thousands of participants come together at the Angus Barn in Raleigh to show solidarity for family, friends, and community members living with a mental illness. After the walk is over, we celebrate our achievement with a family-friendly afternoon of food, games, music, and prizes.
Every step gives us hope, and hope keeps us moving forward. In 2019, we’ll strive to go further, and do more, than ever before. We’d be so pleased to have you walk beside us.
Walk, Run, and Festival
All participants will receive a wristband for admission to the Walk for Hope, the Race for Steak, and to the festival.
Walk, run, or stay at the Angus Barn to enjoy the festivities!
LEAF Festival is an inter-generational celebration of world culture that uses music, arts, and creativity to champion artistic expression, instill cultural competency, and build a diverse & welcoming community.
“Of all the forces in our universe, few things captivate more inspiration, awe and wonder… than the stars. No matter where we stand upon this beautiful Earth, up above is a celestial blanket beckoning our vision to higher possibilities. For the 49th LEAF Festival, the artists selected transcend expectation, defy all convention, and capture the essence of what it means to embrace one’s fullest potential. From the shores of Benin, to the mountains of Colorado, to the forests of Ireland, to the city streets of LA… this Fall, over 15 nations will unite at Lake Eden to share a vision of who we are when we release all expectations, dive deep into our creative passions, and #ReachfortheStars. Join us this October for a Global Gathering filled with music, magic and infinite possibility… And prepare for the journey of a lifetime!” ~ Ehren Cruz, Artistic Director
